About the event

Join Bellarmine University Carver Center/Center of Community Engagement and the Louisville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as we welcome the Civil Rights Activist & Freedom Rider Joan Trumpauer Mulholland accompanied by the Emmy award-winning filmmaker Loki Mulholland. In the 2023 book Get Back to the Counter: 7 Key Lessons for Making a Difference, Loki uses his mother's lessons to address seven core principles that provide the secret to making lasting change for stronger inclusive leadership, purposeful and impactful professional development, and a more equitable and empowered workplace.

Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a recipient of the 2015 National Civil Rights Museum Freedom Award. She is known for participating in over 50 sit-ins and demonstrations by the time she was 23 years old. She was a Freedom Rider, participant in the Jackson Woolworth’s Sit-in, the March on Washington, the Meredith March and the Selma to Montgomery March. For her actions she was disowned by her family, attacked, shot at, cursed at, put on death row and hunted down by the Klan for execution. Her path has crossed with some of the biggest names in the Civil Rights Movement: Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, John Lewis, Diane Nash and Julian Bond.

Loki Mulholland, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is an Emmy-winning filmmaker, author, speaker and son of civil rights icon, Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. His work has received over 60 awards including 20 Best Documentary awards and his films, to include The Uncomfortable Truth, have appeared on Showtime, PBS and Amazon. Loki speaks across the country on issues of race and social justice. He is the Executive Director of the Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Foundation which was created to preserve, share and continue his mother's legacy while teaching others how they can make a difference.
