Louisville Alumnae Chapter History

The Louisville Alumnae Chapter (LAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered in Louisville, Kentucky on May 14, 1934 under the name Alpha Alpha Sigma.  The chapter was later renamed "Louisville Alumnae" and has continued to operate under its second name to the present day.

Today, we are the largest chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in the state of Kentucky.

Through the development and execution of numerous meaningful outreach programs, the Louisville Alumnae Chapter's vast impact has continued under the aims of the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.  Each year, we provide scholarships to young people, thanks in part to our highly supported annual events such as Delta Day at the Races and The Jazz Brunch.  We motivate, develop, and encourage local youth through several youth initiatives, including Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, EMBODI, and Jabberwock.

We support healthy living through events like "Relay for Life," and the annual "Sista Strut," which raises money and awareness to combat breast cancer in the African American community.  Lastly, staying true to our illustrious Founders' commitment to Social Action, LAC regularly leads efforts for voter registration and empowerment, a Prison Fellowship Angel Tree Ministry, and attends Delta Days at the State Capitol.

There are just some of the many ways that LAC has been committed to engaging the Louisville community over the last 90+ years, and we hope to continue this service for many years to come.
