Arts and Letters

Committee Chair

Committee Description

  • Promotes cultural arts in the community. 

  • Preserves and communicates African American artistic contributions. 

  • Hosts at least one Delta Red Carpet event per year.

Chaplin Council

Committee Chair

Rita Bowman

Committee Description

  • Sets the spiritual tone of the meeting when so requested.  

  • Serves in this capacity at other gatherings at the request of the President.  

  • Fulfills the role outlined in the Ritual for chapter meetings and ceremonies.  

  • Participates in Omega Omega services.  

  • Must keep accurate record of deceased members of the chapter for reports to Grand Chapter.   

  • Keep obituaries and provide an annual written report to the chapter to be filed in storage with the annual  chapter records.

Collegiate Connection

Committee Description

  • Responsible for enhancing the retention rate of collegiate members.  

  • Help increase the transitioning rate of collegiate members to alumnae chapters by  guiding and serving as a tool for collegiate members to connect with an alumnae chapter  before they graduate.

Committee Description

  • Manages chapter communications, website, social media, and newsletter.

  • Coordinates publicity for events and ensures brand compliance.

Courtesy

Committee Chair

Committee Description

  • Responsible for extending courtesies, such as condolences,  recognition to chapter members, to honor visiting Sorors fulfilling a speaking  engagement, etc. 

  • Responsible for playing a key role in setting a hospitable  environment, which welcomes a sisterly spirit to our members, sorors and guests at  chapter meetings, Delta sponsored events, as appropriate and other activities as  deemed by the President and/or Chairperson. 

  •  Works closely with the Membership  Services Committee to provide appropriate courtesies in a timely manner.

Delta Academy

Committee Description

The program enriches and enhances the education of young  females in grades sixth through eighth. Delta Academy supplements their studies in math, science and  technology. It encourages them to dream, and also to prepare for full participation as leaders in the  21st century.

  • Coordinates activities for Delta DEARS for retention and social interaction.

Delta G.E.M.S.

Committee Description

Delta G.E.M.S. (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully):  From the dreams formulated in Delta  Academy, this program works with young women in grades nine through twelve to provide the  framework to actualize those dream through the performance of tasks to develop goals leading to  college and career.

E.M.B.O.D.I.

 The EMBODI program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,  Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African American males.  EMBODI is designed to address these issues through dialogue and recommendations for change and  action.

  • Promotes financial literacy, economic empowerment, and entrepreneurship.

  • Offers community and member education on money management.

  • Oversees youth initiatives: Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, and EMBODI.

  • Supports academic excellence and college preparation.

  • Trains members on emergency readiness per national guidelines.

Fundraising

  • Plans and executes fundraising events.

  • Ensures compliance with fundraising policies 

  • Subcommittees that report to Fundraising are Jabberwock, Harlem Nights, Delta Day at the Races, and the Scholarship Luncheon.

  • Ensures internal controls are in place and effective.

International Awareness and Involvement

  • Promotes sisterhood, retention, and reclamation of members.

  • Coordinates hospitality and courtesies, Delta DEARS, and collegiate connections.

NPHC

Committee Chair

Asheley Howard and Tina Griffith

Committee Description

  • Represents chapter at monthly National Panhellenic Conference meetings.   

  • Acts as chapter liaison to share Delta activities with other representatives and to present to the  chapter information of the other organizations represented.  

  • Chair serves as the officer to the Pan-Hellenic organization when the chapter is up for rotation for  a position.  

  • Delta’s voting and non-voting representation on NPHC is determined by the local NPHC chapter bylaws.

  • Local DST chapter must verify the NPHC chapter is in good financial standing with the National  NPHC body.   

  •  Provides a report to the Executive Board and chapter membership each month.
